Ariana Grande Achieves No. 1 with ‘Petal’
Ariana Grande has made a strong return to the music scene, debuting at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart with her latest album, ‘Petal.’ The album sold 295,000 equivalent album units in its opening week, marking her best first-week performance in seven years.
Strong Sales and Streaming Numbers
‘Petal’ has generated significant buzz, especially following Grande’s announcement of a planned break from public life. This attention appears to have positively influenced its sales. The opening week figure surpasses the 227,000 units sold by her previous album, ‘Eternal Sunshine,’ released in 2024. Only ‘Thank U, Next’ had a stronger debut, with 360,000 units in 2019.
Of the total units sold, 168,000 were from album sales, marking Grande’s second-best sales week ever, according to Billboard. Notably, 96,000 of those sales were for vinyl records. Additionally, the album amassed 128.83 million on-demand streams, equating to 126,000 SEA units.
Chart Dynamics
Aside from Grande’s impressive debut, the top 10 of this week’s chart remained relatively stable. Charli XCX’s album, ‘Music, Fashion, Film,’ dropped out of the top 10 after debuting at No. 3 with 75,000 units. Currently, Morgan Wallen and Noah Kahan are the only artists with two albums in the top 10.
The other albums in the top 10 include Wallen’s ‘I’m the Problem’ at No. 2, Olivia Rodrigo’s ‘You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love’ at No. 3, and Ella Langley’s ‘Dandelion’ at No. 4. Kahan’s ‘The Great Divide’ is at No. 5, followed by Drake’s ‘Iceman’ at No. 6, Wallen’s ‘One Thing at a Time’ at No. 7, Olivia Dean’s ‘The Art of Loving’ at No. 8, Michael Jackson’s ‘Thriller’ at No. 9, and Kahan’s ‘Stick Season’ at No. 10.
Future Prospects
Grande is poised to maintain her No. 1 position for at least another week, as there are no major new releases expected to challenge her. The most notable albums released recently came from Role Model and Ravyn Lenae, but they are unlikely to surpass ‘Petal.’ However, she may face competition soon from Phoebe Bridgers’ first new album in six years.
‘Petal’ had the sixth-best opening of 2026, following notable releases from BTS, Olivia Rodrigo, Drake, Harry Styles, and Kahan.
